Francesca Kanat is an emerging Australian artist whose multidisciplinary practice moves fluidly between architecture, interior design, and art. Over the past 7 years, she has worked globally in furniture and interior design, where she developed a refined sensitivity to spatial proportion and material tactility.
Her early world was shaped by a grandfather who was both an artist and a psychiatrist. He filled her shelves with books on phenomenology, spirituality, and the poetics of place, quietly teaching her that perception is its own form of wisdom. Her mother, a former jewellery designer turned tapestry artist, taught her the meditative rhythm of making by hand. Her father worked in fashion, offering a lens on silhouette, material, and the power of restraint.
Her current body of work includes sculptural bronze forms and large-scale, layered ethereal oil paintings. each piece functioning as a site for stillness and sensory presence. Drawing from her longstanding meditation practice, Francesca explores the space between function and feeling: where form becomes a vessel for introspection.
Now based in Melbourne, Francesca works across painting, sculpture, furniture design, and spatial storytelling. Her studio practice is anchored in stillness and sensory awareness, each work an invitation into self attunement. She is currently developing her debut solo collection: a series of meditative chairs and paintings that explore form as both function and feeling.
